I'm leaving out some details, but I've spent 22 days in ICU and 10 days in normal hospital unit. Several weeks ago I thought I had a blockage. I went to the ER. I wear a clear bag and noticed that my stoma was turning black. The nurse said it was fine but I insisted on seeing the doc ASAP. They ended up flying me to Cleveland. In all, I had 4 emergency surgeries over a short time span and was kept unconscious for several days. Parts of my bowel kept dying but they don't know why. Now I have two stoma, one functioning and one downstream
Now I'm in a normal wars eating normal food. I've also taken a few steps.
If I hadn't gone to Cleveland, I probably would have died. I had muliple organ systems dying. The even did something where they squeezed water out of my small intestines.

I am so sorry you had to go through that. This surgical journey can be such a roller coaster ride. You are in the best place. Try and keep positive. This too, shall pass.

WOW. SO glad you advocated for yourself and didn't let that nurse refuse you time with the Dr.
This is a rather scary thing. Sure pray that nothing like this happens to me ever. I often consider the fabric covered bag, but have felt nervous about
not being able to see Peg & check on her....
So thankful you are in a normal ward and looking forward to your return home.

Gosh, ActiveUCer so sorry you have had to go thru this... You are winning the complication prize here that you certainly dont want- hope it is all easy sailing from here on, and that they get to the bottom of all this- sending you warm healing thoughts and hugs.

Wow...that is a scary story for sure! I am so glad you were able to get the help you needed to save your life. I will definitely pray for your continued recovery and less complications in the future. Do they have ANY idea why all of this happened?

Part of your bowel and stoma keeps dying and they don't know why, yet you initially had surgery to have a better life.
I hope you get better cause right now you're getting a bad deal.
They don't know why......the person is dying and .....they don't know why......we made you a stoma.....you'll feel great. Oh it's not working.?...well we don't know why.
I think in life, best practice is to never get a disease, cause if you do ....well we don't know why.

Thanks for your kind words. I don't remember much for 10 days after the helicopter landed. They aren't sure what happened. I had a happy stoma for six months.

I hope that you will soon get the answers you deserve! I'm so sorry, but so glad your alive. I was in a similar predicament and had I better advocated for myself, my issues would not have occurred.
I will be praying for you! xoxoxo

What about
the organ systems which were dying? Could they be revived or are they permanently damaged? Which ones are these?
What does it mean when they squeezed out fluids of your small intestines? Did they have to remove the dead parts of your intestines?
That all sound sooo horrible!! I'm so glad you're survived and I hope you stay well. The nurse who said a black stoma is fine should seriously be sued...
