Help!!-Things I have tried to prevent the redness under my stoma

From Anna, Hi all, As I have said I have said before I have a Urostomy. Off & on for 45 years I have been fighting redness under my stoma. I use an Gricks Rubber bag. I doubt non of you have heard of this bag. Its all rubber except where the screw for it is. My stoma is low on my body. The bag lays on my right leg.

I have recently tried:

Stoma Adhesive Powder: Made me itch & the skin was a dark purple when we took off the bag. Scared us.

Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film: Didn't help and the bottom of the wafer/disc turned a pink color.

Coloplast Moldable Ring: Didn't help. Urine seeped under it.

Anyone know of anything else out there we've not tried? I'd even consider natural things if you found something that works?

I doubt that you will get much response to your questions.....I think you are the only urostomy on the forum. However, have you tried the balsam tincture swabs that I have posted about? It is a first aid product that helps healing and is sticky. Gives something for the wafer to stick to. You can order them from www.allegromedical.com. Search product number 560209. When you remove your wafer and clean only use water and paper towel. Then dry and apply balsam. Dry and apply wafer. It works on ileostomies, why not urostomies? Give it a try. Let me know if you will try it.

I just recently tried the swabs - must say, they've worked great for me & so much easier!
