this is weird, but......

my surgeon and i have agreed on removing my anus and closing it shut. but only today (i'm 1 month post op) i was cuirious whether i'm able to do the squeeze and relax act, just like when i had an anus. well i was amazed to find out i still can do it...... but that seems so weird to me that i can, cuz if i don't have an anus anymore, isn't that muscle supposed to be gone too???? i'm just so freak'n confused confused   and worried that maybe the surgeon made different decisions during surgery and didn't tell me about them...

are all of you that had your anus removed able to squeeze and relax there just like before surgery???

Hmm, are you perhaps squeezing your other pelvic floor muscles (aka what you would squeeze with Kegel exercises). Or maybe the rectal muscles are still intact (which, looking at some diagrams it looks like they lie outside the anus/rectum that is the colon).

I know not much about it, I was just looking at wikipedia because I'm curious too.

thanks for your reply, active. idk........ i don't know why i'm getting so upset, but i'm actually feeling all worked up about this and can't shake it. i think i'm really actually in shock... lol :/ i will try to read on wiki too.

just read some and maybe it's the external sphincter the one i'm activating. i'm guessing the external sphincter can't be removed at all and has to stay. but just guessing.

I feel the same as I did before.  If I contract and release my butt muscles it feels like I am squeezing and relaxing just as before.  Truthfully, if I did not know for sure that everything had been removed down there, I would not suspect a thing.

I actually do this often--just because I can.  It is a huge relief to know the squeezing is not because I am frantically trying to "hold" something in and that the relaxing will never again let anything loose smilewinkgrin

I can do the same. I'm ok about it and glad I have some muscles down there as I guess it may mean that there is less chance of a prolapse/hernia happening in that area?

I can't wait to be able to squeeze my butt and having nothing come out when I relax the muscles! That's soooo annoying. Surgery scheduled in December. I decided to jog today with my dog and 10 steps into it what happens? Yep...like I said...I can't wait :-).
