Stoma seal

Has anyone ever tried these? They are like sure seals but you put them on first under your wafer. The place where I get my supplies gave me some to try. Going to give it a go tomorrow and see what they are like......I have become such a fan of the Friars though, this will be a new experience.

Thanks for the info! I went ahead and ordered the samples too. My wafers are square though, so I wonder how the round seal will work under mine? I wish they gave samples of the Aqua Seals....might just go ahead and order a few.

Well, first off I have to commend that company for speedy delivery! I ordered the samples on Tuesday, and they were in my mailbox today, which is Thursday!! They sent me 3 of the Stoma Seals and then 2 other seals that are made from silicone. Apparently it's a product they are still developing that can be used as a stoma seal, or in addition to the seal. I was in a hurry so couldn't look at it too closely, but it looks like it has adhesive on both sides, so it may create a tighter bond, though it is smaller than the stoma seal. I will give it a try the next time I change.

As luck would have it though, I found this package in my mail box as I was about to go inside to shower and change my wafer. It was very easy to put on and so far it feels great. I decided to not use a ring, going with only the stoma seal and wafer, just to see how it works on it's own. I did use a tiny bit of Coloplast strip paste to fill in a small space between my stoma and wafer, but that's all. Hopefully I get just as much, if not more wear time from this seal, and I hope it doesn't irritate my skin. I do quite like the idea of having an extra layer of protection if a little output happens to get under the wafer.

hi UCW and Larasmom, i was following your discussion and i was curious too to try the stoma seal. i got into their web site and thought i'd try to ask for free samples, but as i live in israel, i didn't imagine they will send me at all. but i was so surprised i got it in the mail within just few days!! amazing! i will try them too and let you guys know how it worked for me. but after you experience UCW, i'm not holding my hopes so up.

Wow, 2b!! I was impressed that got to me in a couple days, but Israel...well, you've got me beat!! I hope the seals DO work out for both of you. I loved the concept and feel of them, just didn't hold up for me...oh well.

 

I got my samples in the mail today.  We shall see . . . . 

I also read a thread on another board where a man uses paper tape as a barrier between his bare skin and his wafer.   He uses Kendall brand, but I suspect it is the same as 3M Micropore.   I guess he uses it like Duo Derm by applying the tape to his skin under the wafer area and then the wafer over top.   I think I looked into Duo Derm and it was a little costly, so I may give this a whirl if the Stoma Seals don't work for me.

I am at the point of trying anything to continue using my favorite Convatec Moldable.   Not sure if it is yeast or an allergic reaction.  Seems to be issues under the Sure Seal at times, too.

I ordered these a couple of months ago, have never used them. Didn't know how.

You use this under your wafer? Instead of an Eakin/Coloplast ring? So the process would be....barrier wipe, if needed paste for dips, this seal, and the wafer?

I'm confused because some are making comparisons to Sureseals, which go on top of the wafer.

I cut mine right up to my stoma, no space. I didn't use anything underneath them (no barrier) then put the wafer on top.

I don't use Eakins or paste or anything so I took a shower, cleaned around my stoma, dried the area really well, put the stoma seal on and then put my wafer on.

Sure seals do go over top. I think they are made of similar materials though as I get the same reaction from both......:o(
