HELLO ALL!
As you all know I am actually facing problem searching for some ostomy products. 1st will be the Eakin seal (not available in Malaysia) 2nd, a convex pouch (still searching locally) 3rd, the benzoin tincture (still searching locally).
So I have currently purchase Opsite Barrier Spray (breathable but waterproof) to fix the poor raw skin around my stoma.
So before i move on to the new pouch change steps, I'll share my normal routine first.
1. Clean with soap and saline then dry it thoroughly
2. Apply barrier cream, cooling powder, stoma powder. Blow off excess.
3. Apply stoma paste on my stoma, heat the wafer with hair dyer
4. Press the pouch down on my stoma and lay straight on the bed for 30mins.
Problem faced:
1. Barrier cream cause the stoma paste to not function properly
2. Barrier cream literally remove off the stoma powder that i have applied
3. Barrier cream did not stay on the raw skin. Only last for a couple of hours.
New steps:
1. clean with soap and dry it thoroughly. Then wipe with saline
2. While there is still some saline wetness, I apply stoma powder
3. Spray the opsite barrier spray around the red ring, stoma covered
4. Dry it and then apply stoma paste
5. Apply the heat up pouch and lay straight for 15mins
So here's the thing, this barrier spray contains alcohol, so if you counldn't bear the pain, then I recommend you to look for another alternative spray. But the good thing is, once you spray on this barrier, applying stoma paste wont hurt anymore :)
I just tried the new steps today with this new gadget, will update again when i do my next pouch change. So for now, feel free to share your own barrier spray experience here. It may help someone else!
