How to know if I have a hernia?

I had my j pouch done in July and I still have the temporary ostomy

My upper abdomen on the left side is quite swollen compared to the right and recently I have been getting a sharp stabbing pain there. Feels similar to pulling a muscle. It does t Hurt if I tense my abs but occasionally will just start hurting and even hurts to lay on my side

Does anyone think that sounds like a hernia?

I've put on weight since my colostomy in May. Now the stoma side is swollen & painful. Feels like I'm carrying around a bowling ball! I'm glad I read this post because I'm going to ask about the pain & possibility of a hernia at my next Dr visit, which is Thursday. This is just no picnic, lately! :(
