Changed this morning after 6 days with Geritrex BCT. Perfect!! Could have gone longer but I was anxious to see the result. Every bit as good as Friar's.

Changed this morning after 6 days with Geritrex BCT. Great results. No leaks. Skin is intact. No irritation. Just as good as Friar's.

BCT is $4.49 plus $8.00 S&H in the US. Worth every penny.

Is it Geritrex Benzoin Compound Tincture? It must be "compound". If it is just plain Benzoin Tincture adhesives will not stick to it. I tried our local drug stores to no avail.

I use the PDI swabs. I travel a lot so I figured they'd be easier to transport.

You should not need it. Clean with water and paper towel and apply BCT only. That's it.

If it helps anyone; I purchased on line a 1oz bottle of Geritrex Benzoin Compound Tincture thru Amazon for $4.70 and $1.77 freight.  I just got it and am excited to give it a try!!!

I spoke to an ostomy nurse about using this and she said it was ok for the short term use but this stuff was meant to be used as glue for wounds and will eventually break down the skin.

Has anyone else gotten feedback from the medical staff?

Ileostomy since 2007. First two years were pure h*** with leaks and ulcers around my stoma. Surgery twice to fix prolapse and retracted stoma. Did not work, still retracted. I have been using Friar's for 4 or 5 years. Friar's and Geritrex are the same ingredients. Friar's is in Canada only. I have never ever had a leak since I started using Friar's. My skin is perfect. I owe it to the fact that if I have some seepage under the wafer Friar's protects my skin. I would really question the nurse about her facts.

Whoa, what??? Break down the skin?? I am the same as Polish Dan. This stuff has saved my skin. I have been using it for a year now and no problems. Even my GI said it was a great idea and he would recommend it to others. My ostomy nure said she has elderly patients who have only ever used it, no pastes, powders or potions for them.

I would love to see where she got her information from. Until proven otherwise, you will have to pry my bottles of Friars from my cold, dead finger tips.

I bought a bottle from my pharmacy, paddock brand compound benzoin tincture 2 oz. for $6.23. I was afraid to use it because of the 77% alcohol, but it didn't burn at all. It is helping my skin heal. Thank you so much for telling us about it. turn

Dan, I'm not sure what you meant about your "ranting"? I read how you apply it with a q-tip, dry it properly, then attach the wafer. I used it yesterday along with a new 2 piece bag from Coloplast that I'm trying out. So far so good!

I so appreciate all the helpful tips from other ostomates!
