I had my reversal yesterday around 2. I woke around 7 in recovery. Won't lie, the pain was throbbing badly. I hit the pain pump multiple times in the first half hour. The first time standing sucked to as all the pressure seemed to go right to the surgery spot. Right now the wound is packed and covered, I haven't seen it yet. Last night and this morning I've passed mucus/diarrhea. Very very watery. No extreme urgency but when I hear some tummy gurgles I go. Nausea was horrible last night. Borderline puking but concentrated not to and didn't. Pain is much less today. I would say a 4-5 out of 10. I'll attempt to walk a little bit later and see what happens. I learned the last time walking is important. That's really all I've got at the moment. On antibiotics and steroids and fluids. Maybe a liquid diet today. Keeping fingers crossed all goes well.

Well I got a look at my "opening" and it's definitely open quite a bit. Idk if it goes straight into my abdomen or not, all is see is black. They pulled the packing out and just put a gauze pad and tape over it. By looking at it, I would think it would hurt much worse

Wonderful hearing from you! Sounds like things are good and are going in a positive direction. The wound will heal nicely, I'm sure it's unsightly now. Keep up your stamina, positive attitude and try walking more today. Baby steps!!!!! Hoping to hear back from you!

Yeah it's not the prettiest looking thing, he said it's about 2cm deep. It's all secure at the base and just need the opening to close. Said about two weeks. It looks like a horrible gun shot wound. I needed a couple pain killers today. The worst today has been the bathroom runs. I'm passing brown/green diarrhea with what feels like urgency just before I need to go but sometimes it's a false alarm or gas. Sometimes I go 5 times in 15 mins. I should be upgraded to full liquid diet tomorrow and low residue on Friday and possibly home.

Congratulations! You're stoma wound will heal up well. I had one that was like 5 inches by 13 inches (and that was the open part). It is very disconcerting.

I'm glad to hear that you're already pushing some stuff out. Yay active intestines!

Is urgency normal after a reversal? I'm getting a lot and I've not made it to the bathroom twice already today. The stool is as liquid as can be. Idk if it's still mixed with mucus or not. I hope they bulk my food up soon

Totally normal. As your stool solidifies and you get re-accustomed to going, it will improve. It could take a few weeks so don't be discouraged.

I'm craving the upgrade in my diet tomorrow. I'm starving! Low residue for a couple weeks which is fine by me. Chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy and white dinner rolls will be on the menu. I was told I'm not allowed to drive for two weeks, has anyone else been told this? They said due to possible sudden stops it can put a lot of pressure on the area of my surgery and possibly cause a hernia.

People not being allowed to drive for a couple of weeks after surgery is completely normal. I thought they could be passengers though. Are they excluding that too?

I need to get more clarification on the passenger thing. I can't imagine being stranded at home for two weeks but I may not mind while my Bowles get in order

Woohoo I got food today and looks like discharge later. I had pancakes, potatoes and an English muffin for breakfast and no nausea or issues so far. As long as lunch is all good I'll be out and healing at home :)

Congratulations! That's the first and biggest (I feel) step to recovery - getting the heck of out of the hospital!

I've been discharged :) 2 weeks of low residue diet and I'm good to go. As soon as this diarrhea slows down I'll be happy. Now gas is kicking in. I haven't farted in over 3 months and it's wonderful. Now I just don't know if it's a bathroom emergency or gas that needs to come out. It puts me in a panic running for the bathroom

I need to try some immodium or something to slow down the diarrhea. I'm messing myself countless times trying to get to the bathroom and my rectum is in such pain from the constant diarrhea and pressure of it being pushed out 5+ times an hour. I need to start keeping a garbage bucket near me because I can't make it.

Hi so glad to hear the surgery went well. When I had a reversal done 4 yrs ago I had to wear incontinent pants for a while as I kept having accidents and felt like I was living in the bathroom. Try not to get to discouraged it will get better its still very early days, not sure you would be allowed to go on anything like Imodium yet its to soon since your surgery. good luck with the recovery your soon be back to normal xx

please tell me there's something that will help. This non stop incontinence / diarrhea is wearing the skin on my butt raw and painful. I literally can't even wipe or blot anymore...not even with wet wipes. I sit in the tub and splash water under there. What if anything can I use on my skin? The diarrhea is non stop all day and night and can't even get to sleep :(

Calmoseptine, A&D, Desitin, Vasoline, Dermoplast

Oh, adding hydrocortisone cream. It'll help with the pain, but it isn't waterproof, so put something over it.

Personally, I don't know. But if the above doesn't work, I've read here that Ilex might. It is quite effective, used for Hirschsprungs babies on diaper rash. It is quite sticky, so vasoline is used ontop. Try not to wipe so much. Apply the cream (above mentioned or Ilex) and ontop vasoline, reapplying vasoline with every bm.

Hopefully some can chime in that have personally gone through this. Wondering if too soon to take some fiber/bulking agents (psyllium, etc.) and also starting to include a fiber bulking diet (tricky.) Start a new thread on this topic.

my sister got me some destin cream and the burn has subsided...thank god! I can actually walk comfortably now. It worked fast. Hopefully I can get my skin to heal a bit. I don't wipe anymore, I literally hop into the tub and use a cup and keep flushing water on my rear. If I wipe anymore I'm taking skin with it. Even the wet wipes burn. It's definitely too early for fiber as my discharge instructions are low fiber for two weeks then resume normal diet as tolerated. I also had my sis fill my pain med script they gave me upon discharge so that's helping a good bit too. Tylenol wasn't doing much at all.

Gordon -- sounds like you are doing the right thing. Definitely NO wiping, even wet wipes are too abrasive for you right now. I went through the same thing at the beginning. Clean thoroughly with water after every bowel movement, then let your skin dry completely -- either pat dry with very soft TP or let it air dry. When the skin is *completely dry* apply a barrier cream (Desitin is fine) -- don't put the barrier cream on damp skin, it traps moisture and can cause a fungal infection. Do this for every BM and you will be feeling a lot better soon :)

oh just finish reading all the posts.. glad that you are progressing!! now I am nervous with the frequent bm thingy.. I hope mine will not be uncontrolable! any how i asked my mom to bring adult diapers just in case.

I just got some adult diapers actually. If I absolutely need to leave the house I'll wear them till this subsides. My BM's are a thick liquid consistency now. I think the severe urgency is not as frequent but it's still happening. I would definitely be prepared for the urgency. I've ruined so many pairs of underwear since the reversal. My bathroom at the hospital was literally 6ft to the left of my bed and I didn't make it sometimes. The opening in my abdomen hasn't been too bad either.
