I named mine HAPPY , after my father's nickname......we never got along...ever...so a fitting name for my stoma

I would have never thought of it, but a nurse asked me one time. Said that some people do. Last time I had one, it wasn't a nice name. :)

Stewart, Stewart the 1, Stewart Jr., Stinker, Bleeder, and Pi**er.

Stewart was the original, Then I got Stewart Jr. While still having the original Stewart...so the original became Stewart the 1st.

Stewart Jrcan have watery output since he's so high in my intestines. When he outputs it can be like a.baby boy peeing, so he earned the "P" name. Stewart the 1st is sometimes called bleeder because the skin around him isn't healed and bleeds a lot. He's also called stinker because his only output right now is mucous and it smells awful!

The names help me keep them straight and also clue family members as to which is giving me problems at the time (even if we're in public). Plus sometimes it just helps to yell at them. ;)

I decided on Stella, it just came to me. I don't want to hate her because she helped me get rid of my colon. She is a life saver that will help me get through this nightmare and one day I hope she'll go back home and I won't have her no more.

Mine is named Harriet. No reason except that was the best my 10 year old mind could come up with at the time. She's stuck by my side through thick and thin for nearly 37 years now :)

My daughter named mine when we were in the hospital. "Lily the Illy". It helps to name it because when we are out and if I have to empty, I refer to Lily, not my stoma or "the bag". Even my friends know her name and ask how she is doing!

I don't really get the naming thing myself, though I love my stoma for treating me so wonderfully (zero issues) and giving me back not just some, but all of my quality of life... I do have a code name for it if I need to discuss it in public with my wife-- my "little friend", as in "my little friend decided to get busy all of a sudden":

Halo, my rectum and anus were removed a year after my ileo surgery so no j pouch for me. But then again, why fix something when it ain't broke?

I ave just changed mine to Lippy. My boss said that my stoma looked like lips. I forgot until now.

I named mine Flo, but sometimes refer to it as the Stinker.

piglet - which sounds cute I know but it stems from the stoma always seeming to be happy when covered in poop (as the saying goes, as happy as a pig in s**t).

It's funny how the name has stuck and all my family refer to it as that now.

Thank you Halo, and also for starting this thread - I've loved reading through the names.  We have to go through so many horrible situations that it's good to be light hearted and have a smile.
