how did they handle where your stoma was? Mine was open and packed with gauze and covered with gauze pad and tape. The surgeon came in that night and they pulled the packing out and just put a piece of gauze and tape over the hole and that's all I have to do to take care of it. It has a special ring type suture that runs around the opening of the hole under the skin. I think to help keep it's form. Mine is closing nicely. Pain wise the day of it was pretty sore, by lunch time the next day they took my pain pump away as I wasn't using it. I wasn't even using oral pain meds. It wasn't bad.

My surgeon sticthed the muscle layer. As for the skin he just did some simple stitches. I have not get the chance to see mine yet. No gauze inside my wound. Just thick gauze pad with tapes outside. I am not on any pain killer nor pain killer pump. A little bit of discomfort but still can handle it. HAving tummy ache now.

I will say, avoid sneezing at all costs...boy does that hurt. If you have to, brace with a pillow. My muscle layer is stitched together as well and the rest is just open. I'm allowed to shower and let the soap and water run in and out of it. Mine looks like an eye lol or a second belly button. Have they let you drink liquids yet?

i saw mine already! is stitched. but very long wound. about 3 inches long. I've switched from gauze pad to opsite.
My doc just allow me to drink some plain water. Soft diet should be tomorrow :)

I probably have to say mine is an inch or less and is slowly closing nicely :) I was allowed water the night of surgery, liquids the next two days then soft GI food the day of my discharge. I've had no issues so far regarding digestion. I will say, when I have to fart (which hasn't been in a while) they come hard and fast and maybe a lil painful. It's hard to tell what's about to come out tho.

That's good news Blksteeda! Hope you recover real soon! Today is the 2nd day after surgery, I am allowed to take soft food now. A lot of gas inside causing me a bit of pain. I have to agree with you. I cant tell when is the gas and when is the BM coming out. Everytime I have the urgency. I will just go to the toilet just to be safe.

I'm still patiently waiting on a formed bowel movement. Still very loose, broken bowel movements or thicker liquid movements. Still urgency and some accidents here and there but much less. Gas pains still come hard and fast and it's hard to tell what's about to come out. I would think with as much food as I eat I'd see more output. Anytime I feel any little gurgle or pain in my abdomen I'm off to the bathroom just in case.

Doc asked me to take fybogel last night and I had a great night sleep!! no BM finally after like 20+ BM in 30Hours on the past few days!!!! Now doc ask me to stop fybogel.. haha because no BM!!

Blksteeda, try to ask your doc if you can take some fiber drinks to thicken the stools. I manage to differentiate gas and BM after I took fybogel. I finally pass out gas without any BM this morning.

Doc did ask me to do the butt hole exercise, 200 squeezes a day! that can strengthen your muscles and allow you to control better! You should try doing that during your free time!!

I still have gastric and gas problem. Well walking is the best solution! Walk walk walk our way out of the hospital :)

I'll be calling my Surgeon and my GI tomorrow. As of today, I still have some issues controlling my bowel movements. It will be 2 weeks this Tuesday since surgery. I'm still wearing depends just in case. At least the explosive diarrhea has stopped and the frequency of BM's has decreased. Now my BM's are very thick/soft consistency...nothing formed yet in anyway. I don't know if it's the way my colon is laid out now but if I bend straight over I get pressure where my tailbone is that makes me feel like I need to go to the bathroom asap. Same with the gas pains, they hit right where my tailbone seems to be...it's aches pretty good when it happens...almost like I slipped and fell on my tailbone. I think it's time to look at a good probiotic now, maybe that will help balance some things in there. I also started back on my Pentasa and Vitamin D. I know I'm overdue for my remicade which may help but I'm afraid to go to my Dr's office to get it because I don't have full control of my bowels yet.

Hmm... Hopefully everything will be OK soon. When I have the gas, that is when I feel like I have to go to the toilet. If I did not consume fybogel, my BM is watery and even I drink fybogel, my BM becomes semi solid also because of the fiber. My doctor ask me to eat a lot of veggie so that it will thicken my stool. I hope this wprks for you too.

Regarding the pain on your tailbone, hope that your surgeon can solve the problem. Must be difficult for you.

My surgeons office called me back, he told me to start on more foods with fiber and we'll progress into trying fiber supplements and possibly some immodium. He stated because my anastamosis area hasn't been used in so long it's going to take time to strengthen and become normal.

I'm a happy camper! No emergency rushes to the bathroom in a couple days! Bowel movements are starting to become more solid...still broken small stools but I'm actually having to squeeze to push them out than trying to squeeze and hold them in till I make it to the bathroom. Urgency is gone! My abdominal hole is healing nicely as well. It's amazing in one day how it turned around.

Good to hear!! Well i am still having runny output because I am trying to let my body to work on it without the help of fybogel. But I almost lose it one time. 4-8bm a day. :)

mine has started to get a little more runny again for whatever reason. I'm to call today and update my surgeon and see what they want to do. I've had a bit of urgency here and there and maybe 4-5 BM's a day.

I think it very much depends on what we eat. Now, if i were to have food poisoning, I doubt i can tell the difference.

I went for my follow up today and got my stitches removed. Ok it is not painful :) but freaky cause my surgeon removed it with a curved blade and not scissor!!!!

I will start working tomorrow! But kinda worry ask school just reopen and the traffic in Malaysia is terrible. Hope everything will go well... no urgencies when i am stuck in the jam.

What will you do if you are in my situation? Stuck in a jam 1-2hours every morning and evening + urgencies at times

I would be a bit nervous as I have been myself the last few weeks. I was afraid to leave my house. Now when I go out I still wear depends just in case and always have my backpack with a fresh pair, trash bags, wipes etc. My mornings are usually calm after I have my morning bowel movements after sleeping all night.

My doctor started me on fiber today and we'll see what happens. He said it will either bulk me up or make me go more. I'm taking benefiber 3 times a day.

Oh.... today went well for me despite the unusual longgggg traffic... i only have 3 BM today, that is the least that i have in a day! Hope i will have only 3 everyday. That will be great. I insist not to wear it. But I bring along a trash bag, a mini mattress and my pantie... haha... so nervous! But after work is even way more stressful! I was praying so hard not to have any urgency.

Other than that... everything is ok.

If I find I know I'll be out for a while or heading to and from work I always hit the bathroom before I go just to get out whatever I can. That seems to help me as well.

so far I think the extra fiber is making me use the bathroom more than bulking things up. My GI said it will do one or the other....so far things are much more loose and gas is non stop.
