I am scheduled to go for surgery on the 21st of January when I will get a permanent ilesotomy.
My question is.............will I still be able to do extreme water sports and the like....Examples are: Banana Boat rides, Water skiing, Disney Rides, Water slides, things where I chance being jostled and bounced about.........?

Any input would be appreciated.

Oh..yes..yes..and yes! Having an ostomy doesn't stop you from doing the things you love. You just need to adjust with making sure your bag is filterless or the filter is covered up so no water get in there. Also there's the stealthbelt ( http://stealthbelt.com/ ) to help protect the bag. Also recommended is to think ahead of when you'll be able to empty your bag or change it when necessary.

You sure can do all those things! Just empty before you go so you won't have to worry about it. I don't know if you are a man or woman, but for women tankinis work well.
You can get in the hot tub too and do all other kinds of exercise, after about 2 to 3 months, or when your Dr clears you.

Thanks so much. I usually get away to warmer climate every winter and really enjoy doing all these things. With surgery in 12 days I wasn't sure I would be able to but the Doc tells me I may be able to get away in March sometime. I was really wondering if I'd still be able to do all the things I have done in the past.

I had surgery in the middle of April and went to the beach the first of July. I did fine, just tired out a little faster. Much better than the previous year, which is actually where I was when I decided to have surgery.
Have you been to the Disney water parks before?

Yes I have been to all the Disney parks many times :) In my earlier life I was with a man who loved to travel and who loved Florida. We went once or twice almost each and every year.

Many people think the parks are for kids.....well I think they are for anyone who wants to feel like a kid :)

Yes!! yeah

You may not feel like it for a few months after surgery...but you can do all those things and more!

I boat all summer and use a Sure Seal over my wafer (you can get a few samples here: www.alpglobal.com). They are waterproof and breathable and protect the edges which, for me, gives me a few more days of wear time per wafer. Other than wearing a tankini with a skirt bottom I don't do anything special when I go to the beach and I don't do anything different for amusement parks.

Three months after my emergency surgery, I went to Germany and France. Three months later I spent two weeks in Punta Cana. I think I have done more since my surgery.....I am not tied to a toilet anymore!

I am a fellow Canadian, Nova Scotia! If that's where you live, I hope the storm has passed for you! We are in Ontario and are finally warming up!

Thanks. I really appreciate all the support here. I'm on the countdown now. I go for surgery on the 21st. It has been information overload for me. It started last with a three hour, extremely detailed pre-op appointment. Nearly fainted. I have a friend who is a nurse who wanted to take me to all my local drug stores this past weekend to show me what supplies are available. This too nearly made me faint. I have someone coming to see me from my local ostomy support chapter this week, and I have to go for markets and an ostomy education session this week as well.

What I feel like doing is grabbing my passport and running away from home.
