Really nervous about reversal

I had a few more gas episodes overnight which was accompanied by some diarrhea-like stuff. My doctor said I can now eat solids and if I feel okay after eating breakfast and lunch, I can go home!!! I'm so excited.

Things are passing through me pretty quickly. Within an hour after eating, I'm passing it. So far I don't have issues holding it, but I had one close call. My dr said this should last only a week or two and things will start to bulk up.

Right now, I feel like eating everything in sight.

I think I'm going to get a pizza for dinner.

Whoa, I'd hold off on that pizza for a couple of weeks at least! Go slow with food for a bit. Remember, you just had surgery....eat several small meals instead of a huge one.

Congrats on getting home. Take it easy.

I ordered a pizza...had one slice, and I'll have another shortly. I'm eating slow and taking it easy.

My surgeon said it was fine to return to a normal diet, just be careful of high fiber foods as they'll pass right through me.

Thanks for the well wishes. Any idea how long it takes for the bowels/diarrhea to slow down?

Everyone is different but my frequency went down drastically about the three week mark. Just as a warning: you may experience some butt burn (especially since you ate some pizza...tomato sauce is very acidic). Get some barrier cream if you don't have some already. I like Calmoseptine. Walgreens carries it and also Amazon.com.

Oh great thank you. I'll head to Walgreens today and pick some up. I've been using Prep H ointment but it doesn't do much for me.

The pain is unbearable sometimes. I woke up this morning and it's difficult to talk because of how bad it is. I'm on Endocet and Valium, so I am pretty knocked out much of the day. I'm hoping the pain will get less by the weekend.

What kind of pain are you having? I don't remember having any pain after takedown. Please, if you have any kind of severe pain....see your doctor. Unbearable pain is never normal.

It's mostly abdominal pain from the inside - I actually think it's gas pain. I've had it since the day of surgery and they didn't seem to think it was out of the ordinary. I was actually on dilaudid until Sunday. I'm jealous you had no pain - are there any others on here who have had pain? Now I am a little nervous.

One thing I notice is I'm actually not going to the bathroom as much as I thought. I went this morning when I woke up, then I had some toast with peanut butter, a banana, and a protein bar around noon. I'm on Endocet so I'm wondering if that's constipating me?

I did have gas pain but it wasn't unbearable. More just uncomfortable and annoying. Tread very lightly with food today. If you are in pain and not passing stool, please, please call your surgeon. I don't want to scare you but if you were to get blocked, these first few days after surgery at home where you are eating more is when it's going to happen. And yeah, pain meds slow the gut.

Sorry it's the mom in me worrying about you!

Thanks, I appreciate your concerns. I'm going to have a very light dinner tonight...maybe an Ensure or something. I am passing gas though so I really hope its not a blockage.

ByeByeUC, I had some soup for dinner and am taking it easy. I did pass a little gas, but still haven't pooped since this morning. If I had a blockage, would I be able to pass gas?

Passing gas is a good sign. Are you still having pain? If you haven't had a bowel movement by morning, I would definitely call your surgeon and tell them.

Okay thanks. I'm still having lots of abdominal pain but I really think it's gas - I can hear and feel it moving through me. I'm going to take half the dosage of my Endocet in hopes that it makes things moving again.

Thanks again for your help and sorry to be a pain in the butt (pun intended!)

Well I had a bowel movement this afternoon, and passed a lot of gas. I feel a lot better. Even before the bowel movement, I was feeling a little better today. I went for lunch with dad and walked around outside a little, I'm sure that contributed to my bowel movement. It was even thicker than normal.

Huge sigh of relief!

Yay! Walking is really good for you right now. Try to move around as much as you can. Each day gets better and easier. :)

It's funny....a few months ago I never would have thought about discussing my bowel movements with people. Today, I think nothing of sending out a mass text to some family and close friends "I pooped" and everyone replies cheering. Lol...

Reminds me of a book I saw once....Everyone Poops.

Justin, I know what you mean about discussing poop! I was diagnosed with colon cancer last feb... This time last year I didn't even know what a colonoscopy was! ..now, feel like I'm discussing it all the time!

No, still waiting for a date. I'm pushing for them to hurry up, but I had pulmonary edema in October (blood clots in both lungs).. And my doctors would like to see me wait for awhile. ..I need to just be patient.

Glad things seem to be coming together for you, and you're feeling a bit better!
