Stoma guard for sleeping?

Ok, day 1 with the StomaGear StomaShield. I do NOT think you'd be able to stomach sleep wearing it - I did not even attempt to lie on my stomach wearing it. It's basically a specially shaped convex hard piece of plastic. Plus you'd still be on top of your bag....I think that would really end up being the big issue no matter what you tried.

I did finally put in an order with Fittleworth, so the considerably cheaper OstoShield should be here in a few days. It's miles cheaper, but same principle, so hopefully I will get some idea of what wearing a more expensive guard will be like.

Apart from that, do you like the StomaGear? It looks quite handy for when you are out and about.

i bought a stoma shield off the internet for £10. I use it for football but I don't think it would be good for sleeping as it does compress the bag a bit.

I'm also a stomach sleeper. I find it helps to put a pillow under one leg, or under a hip (stoma side) and then i lie flat but because my right side is elevated the stoma doesn't press against the matress.

Well, I'm gonna have to wait a bit longer for the stoma shield. Apparently my order raised suspicion with somebody at Fittleworth, because I got an email from them saying I have ordered a lot of new items and they want me to get in touch with them to talk about it.

For crying out loud. Do I have to order exactly the same things every time, $%3ing hell. Wasn't like I was ordering in bulk, or anything like that. It's not even clear if I can email back or am meant to telephone. I guess I'll try email first.

@shainy - Thanks. Yeah, I think all these stoma guards/shields compress the bag to some degree. Can't believe somebody hasn't thought of this already and designed something to protect the stoma while you are lying on your stomach :-/

I tried the cushion thing ages ago, and it sort of worked as long as I laid dead still. But I toss and turn quite a bit: even if I could control it while I was awake, I couldn't after I fell asleep. It's annoying. I keep having weird dreams, which I just want to stop. Squashing my stoma while I'm sleeping might be partly responsible, because anything which hurts or is uncomfortable at night seems to lead to freaky dreams in my experience.

@NiceCupofTea - the StomaGear seems like it would be great for most people. I am having some unusual issues lately that make it painful to touch the area around my stoma at all - I thought I had a hernia, but saw the surgeon today and he says nope.

NCOT could you rig up something soft that you put over your stoma? Like a piece of foam that had a belt around it or something? I'm thinking of a pillow that would move w/you when you move.

I have never been a stomach sleeper at all, so no personal experience here.
