I thought I'd be better

Hi everyone,

I am almost a year out of my takedown surgery for my J pouch. I was completely IN LOVE with the way things were going. Only 3 to 5 trips to the bathroom a day, sleeping at least 5 hours before waking up to go, and the control I had over holding it or not. However over the past month things have been getting worse. Watery consistency, 7 to 9 BMs a day, waking up multiple times through the night, and urgency that I haven't felt since pre-surgery. Also most days my pouch just feels like it hurts, not my abdominal muscles but the pouch itself, like it convulsing or contracting. I am about to turn 20 and have outgrown my pediatric GI and haven't found a new one yet. Wondering if anyone else has also felt this way. I don't think its pouchitis but I don't have an appointment with my surgeon until late June. Any help or advice would be more than appreciated!

Thanks for the response and advice. I have never had pouchitis, thankfully, but I just finished off a round of antibiotics a few weeks ago because my pediatric GI thought I had too much bad bacteria in my pouch and not enough good. Plus I don't feel the "UC" like pain that is usually associated with pouchitis and have been passing no blood. Maybe though. I'll probably end up scheduling an appointment with my surgeon as soon as possible. I was just hoping for something a little more homeopathic since I've been on so many drugs and have had most of the side effects that goes along with all of them. I'm Just Getting Really Tired of Always Not Feeling Good.

You won't necessarily pass blood with pouchitis. Blood is usually accociated with cuffitis. I think it's a good idea to get that appt bumped up ASAP.

If you've already had Cipro and/or Flagyl without relief, I would bet money this is C. diff. You described my C. diff symptoms exactly. I needed two weeks of vancomycin to treat it.
