@Blueheron~ I've been trying out the Mio as well. There are things I really like about it, but don't think it's going to work for me overall either. I might try it again if they ever come out with a convex option. My stoma sticks out nicely until I lay down at night, then it shrinks away like a frightened turtle! Anyway! I was wondering....do you use anything in addition to your Convatec wafer? I also used Convatec Durahesive and get BAD ballooning every night. But unlike you, the ballooning does sometimes cause the wafer to push off and leaks occur. Maybe you know the secret trick that I've been missing? :)
UCwhat- I don't know any secret tricks:) I do have a long stoma that doesn't ever retract, so I am sure that has something to do with the success with the Durahesive wafer... that and using an Eakin ring which (up to the point of using the Mio) always seemed to hold fast and prevent leaks even when my wafer peeled up on one side.
I don't add much to my wafer but I do adapt it a bit. I have to cut the tape off my Durahesive wafers and replace it with strips of another kind (3M Medipore) as my skin is sensitive to Convatec tape. The smallness of the circular Durahesive part of the wafer seems to help it stick. When I tried the tape-less square Durahesive wafer it always popped up on an edge because the footprint was bigger and it didn't conform to my belly as well. Fortunately, even when it popped up I didn't get a leak because the Eakin stayed put. Still, it is always a little unnerving to peek under a popped up wafer and realize that a 1/2 inch wide Eakin is the only thing preventing disaster:)
I am still not sure why the Mio leaked as it conformed so well to my belly. I think it just isn't sticky enough for me so when my pouch ballooned as it always does at night, the Mio wafer came undone and pulled the Eakin up with it.
