I have esophageal issues. Severe spasming. Started during my 1st pregnancy, thought it was heartburn, but knew it wasn't. 4 years later, when I was diagnosed with severe diverticular disease, I told the GI's of the spasming. They all said it was heartburn, very frustrating. After 4 years, I finally found a GI that performed a endoscopy, which was negative, and he referred me to a large teaching hospital for an esophageal nasogastric manometry. I had an NG tube inserted, and with a syringe filled with water, I began swallowing the water as the NG tube went deeper into the esophagus recording my muscle movements. Tests reveled that I has severe spasming in the bottom 2/3. Thankfully, I don't have achalasia. The GI put me on Bentyl, but I didn't see a difference. Several months later, I had my colectomy, and the problem wasn't so severe. about 3 years afterwards, which was last October, the severity returned so bad, where I had to call emergency once because I couldn't vomit up the food that was stuck. I haven't had another manometry or gone back on the meds (there's others too), so I don't know what's going to happen next. I try to keep my stress down, try to eat slowly with small portions, I drink about 2/3 glasses of water with each meal, and I still have horrible pressure.
Let me know if I can help you with anything!!!!!!!!
