Just a word of warning because I don't want what happened to me to happen to those of you who still have an anus and have end ileos. I thought the world of my surgeon...still do because he did a wonderful job on my ileo. However, he failed to tell me I should have the remaining anus checked from time to time. It's been over four years since my operation and I started to feel some pressure in August. Long story short, my original surgeon retired, I didn't like the new surgeon they stuck me with over at Penn. He was very rough doing the exam and never picked up on anything. I saw a surgeon here in Jersey who told me the UC came back into the anus.
I had biopsies taken last Thursday. He originally thought I had a rectovaginal fistula, but found that to be negative. He did tell me I should have had the anus examined at least every two years following the operation. Now I am on pins and needles hoping there is no malignancy, because the pictures he took sure look nasty.
I hope this helps those of you to which it refers. God bless.
