Cold meds and cough drops

So for the past few days I've had a cold with the whole congestion a, runny nose, coughing and sore throat...just your typical winter ordeal nothing crazy. But as the symptoms started to worse. I started taking a regiment of DayQuil/NyQuil and cough drops and have steadily been getting more and more diarrhea and urgency.

Well after some googling I noticed that a lot of people with ostomies or jpouches have similar issues. Anyone else notice this? What do you take for an alternative to help with cold symptoms? Is it something specific in the medications which cause this?

Hi Rabbit-- I had a nasty, severe albeit short (start to finish within a week) head/chest cold a few weeks ago but none of the heavy duty OTC stuff ( incl dayquil and nyquil and various lozenges) caused my end ileo any issues at all. the ones that had sugars caused a little more liquidy output, but only temporarily, and non issue since I was indoors and oeeing like a maniac while drinking herb tea after herb tea (or the cold meds in hot) water).

Hmm, thanks for the response. I'm going to just take some Benadryl before bed and just drink some tea with honey and lemon tonight and see how that goes. My wife has been taking apple cider vinegar and that helps. I just want to avoid the OTC stuff (Benadryl aside) and see if things change. I even had to take a lomotil last night to slow it down.
