Sigh went to the er yesterday. Took to much oxycodone for pain from surgery. Got blocked was vomiting etc. doing a bit better now. Anyone had this?

It's an ileus. Getting a little better. Really bad time though. Hopefully home tomorrow.

Ileus is awful. You'll feel better soon, just keep walking.

Oh no, did they put you on an NG tube? :( that is rough-- been there, done that for ileus a few days after I was discharged after surgery... It will all be past soon but is certainly very uncomfy for those days. Wishing you a swift recovery.

I did after my big surgery where they took it all in July 2011.

Same thing--Oxycodone. Against my better judgement, I continued taking it when I was released because they told me I should for 2 weeks. A week after dismissal I was back in with Ileus, and my first introduction the the NG tube.

It was a blessing though for me because they X-Rayed my stomach and caught a portion of my lungs which showed the blood clots in my lungs. Upon further testing they found the culprit which was the one in my leg. Had I not developed Ileus, I may not be here. I had no symptoms of blood clots.

I didn't need any pain meds with my latest surgery, but I won't risk it with Oxycodone again. I hope my surgery days are now over, though.

I'm doing a bit better. Some output. No NG tube fortunately. Has been pretty awful. I had a bad reaction to dilauded w my first surgery thought oxy was milder. Big mistake.

Tylenol is very affective as a pain med if you take it continuously, my surgeon really insisted on (2) 500 mgs of Tylenol every 4-6 hours with the Oxy. I was able to get off of Oxy very quickly with the help of Tylenol.

Still in a holding pattern. Pretty much nauseous all the time. Barely controlled. That had me try chewing gum yesterday and I vomited immediately. Wondering if I would be better w an NG tube. What does it feel like when an ileus clears? This is pretty miserable.

Oh Blue, I am sorry to hear you aren't bouncing back yet. Are you walking lots?

I don't know what ileus is but it doesn't sound like much fun. What about a mint or hard candy? Would that help? Gum made me feel nauseous too after my surgery in September.

Ileus is when the bowel is paralyzed. Doesn't push anything through. I threw up a lot this morning. They are going to put I an NG tube soon. My bowels are so bloated hard to get them going again this way.

Bummer cry

Sorry, you have to have that dreaded NG tube, but I do think in some instances it does help speed things up.

They gave me some throat lozenges which seemed to help, somewhat. Hang in there.

You poor thing, throwing up after abdominal surgery is horrible, it happened to me a few times and it was so painful. I hope that the NG Tube helps and you get out of the hospital soon.

Tube is in. Less traumatic than the other time I had one. about 750 ml drained rift away and I vomited maybe half that. It's uncomfortable but a big relief to have that stuff out if me.

     Oh bluegrass, I'm so sorry you're so ill. sad    Percoset is what did me in while still in the hospital following my surgery.  Percoset and lemon cake...yep, bad combo.  The resident surgeon told me I could eat two days following my surgery..well...no...I should have gone with my instincts, but the food was soooo tasty!  Not so much coming up though shocked .  My regular surgeon was livid that his resident told me I could eat.  I think she just wanted to clear out as many patients as possible due to the upcoming 4th of July weekend that year.  As luck would have it, she was stuck with me the entire weekend and clear up until July 9th because of that setback.  I started feeling nauseous following the dose of Percoset before my meal though.  I told them I didn't need it, but the nurse insisted.  When my vomiting persisted a few times, my surgeon told me the ng tube must go down.  It wasn't the most pleasant event, but it sure did help!!!  That baby sucked out two huge vials of bile.

     I hope and pray you will be feeling better real soon.

It is amazing how much bile has been sucked out of me. I think around four liters, although of course they are putting fluid in me too. Pretty miserable. They tried gastrografin today to try to awaken bowels. Not sure yet if it worked but I threw up some of it even though it went in the tube.

Yesterday my surgeon was saying things like she had no idea why this is continuing and maybe she shouldn't have done the surgery. Not reassuring.

Ido feel better than when I was sooooo nauseous but the tube is so uncomfortable. Dreamed someone was trying to strangle me. Subtle.

Thanks. I'm doing much better. Tube has been out since this morning, on clears. Hopefully home tomorrow. I'm exhausted.

Hopeful this nightmare is almost over. After getting the tube out I had rivers of liquid output. I'd hear some gurgling and boom bag was completely full. Had my first blowout ever the night before last -- woke up with poop all over.

I've been taking Metamucil to thicken and that's starte d to work. They said I could go home last night but my partner and I were nervous I wasn't stable enough, but now that the output is thicker seems ok Feels like I need to sleep for a month.

Excellent news....not the blow out part (yuck...) but that you are on your way home! That's great news!
