So the loop illeostomy is sinking, the skin right around is fragile(easy bleeding, they gave a cream),and the beloved Milo Coloplast bags that do not have a convex system. Sooo, trying to find a competitor, and have lots of needs (she is 21, and this is hard on all kinds of levels). Need fold up, opaque, drainable,material like Mio,( V-good), & a CONVEX or similar wafer. Not a great stoma like the end one. Any ideas? We are just sorting thru the samples now..didn't need to for the first surgery. She almost passed out on the bag change, the world is on vacation, and I just wondered if there was a secret convex wafer that fit in a bag that didn't freak her out. Most things are good, I know.... Just so personal to her needs and so little I know about the brand offerings.

My daughter has a loop ileostomy and has done well with:
Hollister New Image, Flextend Skin Barrier floating (convex) flange & tape #14802
Hollister New Image Lock 'n Roll drainable pouch with filter # 18182
She uses 1/2 of a Coloplast Brava strip paste directly on skin, rolled to fit like a ring around her stoma, under the flange. Hope your daughter finds something that works for her.

Yeah, I used that Hollister wafer with the lock 'n roll bags throughout. They're opaque and I think the fabric is good.

It's a small thing but wearing an ostomy belt made the biggest difference to my skin when I had the loop. It's a little uncomfortable at first but after a day or two she'll forget it's there. There was a dramatic improvement in my peristomal skin on the first change after adding the belt.

Is the wafer sticking OK to the cream she was given?

Hi Katmom...I have had a ton of problems taking care of my loop ileo too. It is a lot harder to deal with! I have also had skin issues which required some help from the Wound care clinic at my local hospital. That is better but still not perfect. For my end ileo I used Hollister New Image 2 piece Flextend with convexity. I could get 7 days out of the wafer and only had 2 leaks which was when I first got home from the hospital. This time they sent me home with Marlen one piece which I absolutely hated. A few weeks after surgery they switched me to Coloplast 2piece Sur-fit Natura with convexity. I like it better than the Marlen but the system is not as durable as Hollister. I only trust it for 3 days. I have had issues with leakage out in public and at work which has been frustrating and embarrassing. I work with some great ladies that have been awesome to me and we have devised a communication system if I need help so the guys I work with won't know. I also have to build up the wafer with a barrier ring and I always wear a belt. I hardly notice the belt anymore. I have had some crying fits and pity parties trying to change the pouch during this stage. I am just counting down to February when I have my takedown.

I had horrible skin when I first had my loop. To fix my issues they switched me to the Coloplast convex 2-piece. What helped my skin was the Coloplast Brava protective barrier sheets.

I found that the barrier rings with the convex didn't work well for me, they never sat right on me and leaked.

Yup. The end ileo gave me a false impression of how easy this could be. My loop sent me experimenting as well.
I am a big fan of moldable wafers; no cutting, no sealing, snug fit on stoma. So I changed to the convex convatec moldable 2 piece. Seems great. No need for Eakins seals or pastes anymore.
I'm gonna try a belt as buckeye recommended, now. Thanks!

Thanks, all. We are in experimental mode. Called for more samples and our Stoma nurse chimed in too. She is thinking the output is still too watery, and d will add some Immodium to the mix. The Coloplast rep gave a comparable convex wafer that works with their nice Mio bag system( doesn't snap in, but fits). They are going to Fed Ex a few samples, so very nice of them. Seems the thinner rings are better with the convex one too. It is like operating a spaceship, says my daughter. I assured her 2015 was going to be better and she laughed and said"low bar, huh ma?" Chuckle chuckle. Happy New Year friends. Thanks for the tips!
