Extreme But Pain - step 2 of 3 jpouch surgery

I just had my second surgery to complete the j pouch almost 3 weeks ago and I am having such extreme but pain that has not subsided at all since leaving the hospital. I am basically on percocet 24/7 now and even that isnt providing much relief. Has anyone experience this? When should I expect relief? Is there anything you did to help with the pain besides pain medication? I am starting to get worried that something is wrong!

Severe pain is never normal so I would contact your surgeon right away and let them know. It could be an abscess or infection going on. Are you running a fever?

No fever and my surgeon (who I saw on Friday) says its just because I had major surgery and I am recovering. Im not sure that is right though. What does and abscess feel like? How do you know if you have one?

I had pain after my step two as well. Somehow I didn't realize that step two is when they go in through that way to do that part of the work. I don't know why I thought that was at step three. Anyway, it subsided after a couple of weeks, but I don't think mine was as severe as yours. Definitely worth asking about.

My daughters pain was still considerable at week 3, but right around there, it subsided. Try to alternate the Percocet with something non opioid pretty soon. You should checkin with doc if it says constant. If it is any consolation, my girls energy returned faster than after step 1, but the pain was greater in the beginning.

They found my abscess with a CT Scan. I had severe intermittent pain and I did have a fever but it was off and on (especially at night).

I developed it about 7 days after my surgery so if you've had the same pain from the beginning then it might just be normal pain from the surgery.

Was your surgery Laproscopic?

After my 2nd surgery I was more sore and stiff than anything else. It took me a while to get my energy back after the 2nd surgery.

So it turned out to be an abscess - thanks very much for the advice. I went for a CT scan the following morning and spent the last day in the hospital to get it drained. Hopefully this will resolve the issue.

I'm glad they found it and you're getting treatment. They couldn't find it with my first CT Scan, 4 days later I had another scan and they found it. I had a very small abscess which didn't need to be drained and only needed abx to treat it but it was SO painful.

I started to feel much better 48 hours after treatmnt.
