Hi all,
After reading the mesh question posted earlier regarding shifting lady parts, then seeing on another forum women were saying that intercourse was difficult... I just have to ask:

Can we still have yummy sex with a J-Pouch? The other day, at 5 weeks post step 2 pouch creation, I had intercourse and it wasn't ideal and perhaps KY would have been helpful. But I thought it was mostly because even though my heart was in it, my head was still quite distracted with wondering if I was healed enough, etc.

I would sure like to hear from someone who says it gets fabulous again! Though all honest replies appreciated.

I'm a guy so I can't help with this but I'd suggest going over to the Jpouch.org site and look under the women's health section; there are some specific threads on this topic. There was also a recent thread under the general forum.

I'd post links but there is not a way to post jpouch.org links from their site.

Thank you for replying, Keith! Yeah, that's the place that got me wondering... And the responses were all either saying that sex was difficult or were saying sorry that others are having trouble. But no one said they actually have good sex again. But good idea and i will check there again. I would have asked there, but I'm not a registered user and I thought it would a pretty bold first question!
I feel like I 'know' some folks here, so was more comfortable asking. Still would like to hear replies - I had no idea before surgery that this was something to even think about. :-/

No j-pouch here, but... my sex life is so-so. I mean, it's not the most comfortable thing, having intercourse- whether it's due to some shifting of my internal organs, or if I'm sctually smaller down there due to the RV repair... or my head just isn't into it, who knows! Everyone seems to claim they do have wonderful sex since surgery, it's so much better, they can be intimate again, etc. Personally, it's just not the greatest for me these days. Which isn't a huge deal, my husband is udnerstanding.. so he says! and we do have sex, it's just not crazy passion filled madness. But is it ever, really?!?! tongue

No sex problems here; 14 years with a jpouch.

I think that you need to give it some time to heal, you had major surgery near that area. Bad analogy here but it's all that I have to personally go on being a guy; I had a pouchograph ~3 weeks after surgery and it was the most painful experience of my life and I was on pain-killers. I had a 2nd pouchograph at the 12 week mark and I had no pain what so ever.

If you are worried then I would encourage you to post a thread in the J-pouch forum asking for women who are having a normal sex life after their surgeries. You'll find more people like SueBear responding. The thing with Internet Health forums are that most of them are being used by people who are having issues and that's why you see threads with people who are having problems.

You guys are so great. Seriously, where else would I turn but to these forums to get this info? Thank you. I did ask my surgeon today. Bless his heart, he just kinda said, "you tell me." He did say he hasn't ever heard his patients speak of troubles.
Keith, thanks again for the tip about the Women's Health area of the J-Pouch forum. I had only seen the one posted in the General Discussion, which had me a bit worried. Over there in the Women's Health, they weren't holding back! Still, mixed responses, but I did hear some like SueBear who are fine. And you're right... I need to be patient (and gentle now, like my name is supposed to remind me!) with myself and let time heal.

Post step 2 j pouch construction - does that mean you had the j pouch created now, are letting it heal, but have a temp ileo? (I am having a two step, not three, and just wanting to clarify on exactly where you are at in your recovery)

If so, I would say you are right in giving it a little more time. I was very "in my head" in the beginning, too, out of fear and as that calmed down, things improved. Also, I noticed that we had to switch positions up a bit, as a position we were used to was and continues to be a tad uncomfortable now (I attribute it to the changed anatomy). But we found something else that worked great, instead! Once you can relax, think of it as a chance to explore and try new things. :) Things have gone back to "fabulous" here and I hope they get that way for you soon!

When I wrote that, I was 5 weeks into my step 2 of 3. Meaning, I had the pouch created and healing while I had a temp ileo. I think you are right that I was too in my head at that point. And others have a good point that I may have been moving a little fast.
As of today, I am now 1 week post takedown (yay!).
At this moment, I am not even considering intercourse as I heal. But, I am SO glad to hear someone use the word FABULOUS when talking about this matter! Thanks very much for chiming in. And I wish you great success with your takedown next month! :-)

Thank you so much! And I hope your adaptation period is quick and you get back to living life as soon as possible! Keep us posted on how you are doing!
