What a nightmare!!!
Those are the pouches I use as well. I change my appliance every 7 days, and the filter usually leaks around 5, so I tape it. On some people in my support group, even the tape doesn't work and it still leaks.
I too have taken apart the filter and investigated it. Just a horrible invention.
Last year, Northwestern's innovation and design group received a grant and began the process of trying to develop a filter. When I mentioned that I also belong on a internet ostomy support group.....they mentioned you! Not sure if they ever got ahold of you. Their grant ended, and I'm assuming they didn't have enough time, because nothing came out of it. Shame....because they interviewed so many individuals with ostomies, in support groups and while hospitalized, and this gas in the pouch is a main concern.
In my support group, Coloplast came and they have a new pouch design....Mio. They don't have it in convexity or moldable though. But it is so inventive, meeting all of my needs. A twist click tab design for the pouch attachment (NO pressing). Their filter design is unique. Full circle filter. The coloplast rep said that they will not be making it in convexity or moldable....but maybe with demand they might. Or other manufactures might see the demand for change.
If it were me, I'd just purchase a box at a nearby ostomy supply store until Bryam gets them in. Maybe they can bill the insurance too.
