The "D" pain med is probably dilaudid. I had that in a pain pump after a couple of my operations. I seem to recall using a grand total of one time. I didn't have a lot of pain after the operations, but it sure put me to sleep really fast. I was also given dilaudid on a couple of ER room visits when I had blockages. I can attest that it really helped ease the pain almost immediately.
As for the Oxy, I steer as far away from that as I can. I took one dose after my first operation after I was released and it made me violently nauseous. That's not a good thing when you still have staples in you and a bag on your abdomen. I think it, in part, led to one of my blockages. So, after I was re-released, if I had any pain (and, as I said, the pain was pretty minor), I just toughed it out. In fact, for a later procedure I had to have done, I skipped the pain meds entirely and, believe it or not, was accused by one of the doctors of lying about my level of pain. LOL.
My brother-in-law also was prescribed Oxy. He had to go through daily radiation therapy for a cancer that had affected the back of his nose and throat. When he took the Oxy, it really made him feel psychologically strange. He got very combative, so a few of us took him aside and explained to him what he was doing and we got him off the Oxy.
I agree 100% with ks1905. A lot of the pain you'll get will be abdominal gas pains that are best handled by walking and walking and, then, walking some more.
Best of luck!
