I am struggling with the decision whether:
A. to go ahead with J- pouch
B. Keep my ileostomy or
C. Give surgery a go and if it doesn't work out get my ostomy back. I can't go around trying to find a bathroom every 3 hours with a flaming red rear, is this progress? Is it worth being able to say "got a _ _ _thole" .....the trade off just doesn't sound good to me...why not keep my Stella-stoma, (who works great)
My doc is holding a surgery date mid June for j pouch procedure, since I already have some done....
Initially I was to be reconnected but surgery started my colon was virtually gone, (UC) damaged, healed greatly, but not connectable.
I am afraid if I don't give J-pouch surg. a chance and a go, I will "wonder" about
what if, until I'm bonkers! Yet I do fine with my ileostomy system and its amazing what you can get used to. At first I couldn't hardly stand to look at my stoma and pouch, now it all seems "old hat", a part of me.
Any J-pouchers that can offer me any insights and if you love it, regret it, hate it...pro's and con's.
I am new to forum/site while I read rules, I hope I am not treading on
any toes....pointers? I'll take those too!!
*how do I include my "story", meds, conditions etc...?
Thanks, an appreciative 55 yo,Female, UC, pacemaker,etc...SURVIVOR!
