I am new to having an ostomy. I have noticed that I tend to get a lot of air in my bag, especially during the night. It seems like a lot to me. I do not like how often it seems to get poofy with air. haha!

I assume that its probably partially what I am eating. Does anyone have tips on things to avoid to help with the air? or tips for this in general?

Avoid gas producing foods and beverages; carbohydrates, carbonation, and dairy.

I think dairy may be part of my problem...and carbs. I'm not even sure what to eat. I love my carbs!!!

Google 'gas producing foods' and start by eliminating those. You should notice improvement.

How soon after surgery are you?
I used to get a lot of gas at night for the first few months, I'd have to get up to empty because it was so filled with air, not output. It gradually decreased though. So if you're still that new, that may be the reason & it will just decrease itself!

That makes me feel so much better! I am only 3 weeks out from surgery. I'll be having a reversal hopefully about 6-8 weeks out so I guess it is just something I may need to tolerate. I usually empty air in the night and first thing in the morning.

It could very well just be from surgery! Mine was laparoscopic surgery too so I think that caused even more air in me that had to come out some way!
Also make sure to keep eating, little & often. I still find if I don't eat for a while, it causes gas.

Mine was also laparoscopic. I have been practicing eating every 3 hours something very small...just today, but it seems to be helping. I think I had been eating too much at a time.
