Hello everyone,
On June 9th I had the rest of my sigmoid colon, rectum, and anus removed and are closed. The plastic surgeon paired up with my colorectal surgeon decided to take the gracilis muscle from my thigh and put this healthy muscle and tissue in my butt wound. I'm very glad he did this because it seems from reading a lot of people had their wound issues linger until they had to do this anyways.
Unfortunately I still ended up with a tunnel wound. It is 4.8cm deep. It got infected and the packing was hurting a ton, I went back to the hospital for another 5 nights. They placed a drain near my pelvic and fluid collects into this bag I just keep in my basketball shorts pockets. I also was given a pic line which I should have for 10-14 days while they try to clear everything out. I'm on 3 antibiotics for 4hrs total a day. The area is already a lot more clean and it hurts a lot less now that the infection is being treated and the fluid isn't piling up (fluid from the top of the wound was collecting in the bottom of the wound)
My main question is:Who has experience with the wound vacuum?
I see my plastic surgeon on Monday, and he plans to start me on this. I hear it really speeds things up. If you had to guess, how long would someone with a 4-5cm deep tunnel wound require this device for? (I am 22 years old and heal quickly). Just guessing I would think I'd use the VAC maybe a week or two weeks, and hopefully that wound heals in around 3 weeks. I really have no clue.
Thanks again for the input I appreciate your feedback, a lot of stuff is going on so I've been a bit overwhelmed.
