There was recently a post about
getting comfortable after surgery that I thought was helpful

I am on step one of three so i can't answer too many of your questions. I can tell you, my first week was rough so I can bet it's rougher when you've got the butt wound to deal with. On the other hand, after you get through the worst, it's all up from there. I think it's really thoughtful of you to put your work and family ahead of yourself but you should go for the jpouch if that's what you want. I get the sense that it's not what you want, just something to consider. I actually find living with the ileo to be pretty easy. From reading about
a lot of people's complications with a j-pouch here, I question whether it's the best route but I realize I would love to get away from buying supplies some day so i am going to give it a shot. I hope for the best.
I definitely have the gas issue you speak of. I had no idea this was a problem before I had a pouch. I haven't found a good solution. Some people "burp" the bag, basically separate the plastic rings to let the air out. I have had some issues with output escaping while doing this so I don't like to do it. Another option are vents but I find that those get clogged too. Filters are great in theory but they clog up quickly with ileo output. People say the gas is worst in the first few months and then it improves. you also can't compare UC gas to gas when you no longer have UC. Uc creates TONS of gas! I still have tons, go figure, i can't imagine it's the norm. You can always empty normally from the bottom and get rid of gas too. Just seems inconvenient to do that every time you want to release the air. I do it a lot because i am scared of he other options.
