I am new to this site, this is my first time here. I was diagnosed with Crohns in 1986 when I had a bowl resectioning for a bowl obstruction. Since that time I was pretty much disease free, until last year (Sept. 2004), when severe abdominal cramping brought me to the hospital, and eventually 2 surgeries to remove diseased bowl, resulting in a ileostomy. I was told then that I had all my colon, but there was so much damage that while possible, it was not probable to ever be reconnected. Since Sept. 2004, I have been hospitalized 4 times (twice in the last month) for severe dehydration. This last time, a new team of doctors told me that being reconnected really was my only option. After barium drinks and enemans, was informed that we could scheduled the surgery for Nov. 4, 2005. Because there were so many complications with my surgery in 2004, I was in the hospital over 3 months, then a transition center in order to keep getting TPN for unusually high output, which has never really settled down. Now this surgery seems to be happening so fast, and I want to be reconnected. But it is all new doctors, even laproscotic surgery; they make it sound quite routine. Can anyone talk to me about
this? I live several hundred miles away from where my first surgery took place, so don't have the same access to my former team of doctors as before. Wonder why one team would think it not likely and another team would highly recommend it? Would appreciate any and all feedback. Thank you. JosieR
