I had the stents, they don't actually go in your bladder. They go in both of your eurethras (spell check!). I asked my GI doc what they were for and he explained that your bladder lines are like tiny little spaghetti noodles and very very easy to knick during surgery. So they use these stents sometimes to assist the surgeon in being able to identify and stay away from them. I think he said the skinnier you are the more apt they are to use them because everything is so tight in the area he or she will be working in.
For me they put them in and took them out while i was under. Only thing they did was give me bloody urine for two days after surgery. But you'll have a catheter in for that time anyways. Again, all this is done under anesthesia so you won't really notice a thing
