Bladder stents for surgery?

I have a question, when you guys had your surgery did they do bladder stents?? It was mentioned in my original surgery date before it was canceled and in the rush of getting me admitted I forgot to ask the purpose or if that's normal as it wasn't mentioned before. I meet with the surgeon again Wednesday before my new surgery date and will ask him as well but it's been on my mind and thought I would also ask here!

Nope. Had a Foley catheter as well.

I had the stents, they don't actually go in your bladder. They go in both of your eurethras (spell check!). I asked my GI doc what they were for and he explained that your bladder lines are like tiny little spaghetti noodles and very very easy to knick during surgery. So they use these stents sometimes to assist the surgeon in being able to identify and stay away from them. I think he said the skinnier you are the more apt they are to use them because everything is so tight in the area he or she will be working in.
For me they put them in and took them out while i was under. Only thing they did was give me bloody urine for two days after surgery. But you'll have a catheter in for that time anyways. Again, all this is done under anesthesia so you won't really notice a thing

I had stents for my step one surgery as well. It's just a precaution to keep your urinary tract safe. The urologist put them in and took them out while I was under anesthesia. Like others have said your urine will be bloody for a day or two thereafter but it's not a big deal.

I was terrified at that the thought of these stents that they would be putting in me at the time of my colon resection, but they were no big deal.

Had I not been told about them I would have never known that the happened. Yep, about a 10 minute procedure while you are under.
