Yeah, it's easy to get irritated skin if things are still adjusting. The stoma's still shifting in size and shape, so not every wafer opening will fit as securely as you'd like. This leads to the red, sore skin. I have it right now and plan on calling my supplier tomorrow to send me a different sized wafer. But things like Brava strips and whatnot can help lessen the pain, if not outright help heal it.
When I have a leak, I just 'know'. Something comes undone and sure enough, when I reach down to touch it, the wafer is wet. But I think in your case, it's just a poor fit. :/
