I too, agree with the others. Although, this is coming a bit late for you, but it is best to research a good colorectal surgeon near you to have this delicate surgery performed appropriately. However, even THEN things can go awry. My GI doctor refused to send me to a surgeon. I suffered 12 yrs with UC and went through a myriad of meds and they were killing me. I DID do my research and found one of the top colorectal surgeons in Philadelphia (I live in South Jersey). My disease was confined to my rectum. Well, he took the colon and the operative report says he took the rectum too...but...here it is, five years later and I just found out my disease is back inside the anus and my new colorectal surgeon (mine retired in 2013) told me that there is a bit of rectum left....oy. I can't complain though because I found out there were complications during surgery...bleeding and I suppose he wanted to get in and out ASAP. He made a fantastic stoma, no issues with my ileostomy. So, there you have it. Even with top notch guys there could be problems. But, most definitely, find a more experienced colorectal surgeon before proceeding with anymore surgeries.
