New York Surgeon Reference

I'm looking for surgeon references in New York (especially northern/upstate NY).

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2013, and I've gone through most of the usual meds to no avail. I just started Entyvio, and up until now my GI doctor hasn't wanted to discuss surgery. I had a lengthy phone conversation with him last week, mostly about Entyvio, but he mentioned that he wants to talk to me about getting a surgical consultation at my next appointment with him in case Entyvio doesn't work.

I'm sure he will give me some surgeons to talk to, but I want to start doing my research now. If anyone has experience with a good surgeon in upstate or northern New York, I would really appreciate the reference. Thanks very much!

That's the problem with NYC surgeons(especially the top surgeons), almost all of them do not take insurance except for Medicare. It's a PITA.

It's the time of year that people switch insurance, if you have the opportunity to switch insurances then you might want to consider a PPO from a major insurance carrier.

What type of surgery are you planning on? j-pouch or a colectomy with an end ileo? If you are planning on a permanent end ileo then most surgeons can do that and you may not have to travel far for it but if you want a jpouch then you probably want to go to the Cleveland Clinic or one of the teaching hospitals in NYC.

I've been to both Mount Sinai and NYP Cornell, I had my surgeries at NYP Cornell and I liked it much better than Mount Sinai.
