difficulty with pouch leaking, using eakin seal

Does the dermacol need an ostomy that doesn't change size? Mine swells and shrinks a lot- and do you have ileostomy or ostomy? I wanted to try the dermacol, but read that people had problems with it, and I figured where my ostomy changes so much I would havel ots of problems wit it

Stoma always changing its size due to peristalsis.
Dermacol has turtle neck made of soft stretchable silicone, so it will accommodate peristalsis. Unfortunately Dermacol made for round stomas or almost round. So if your stoma is oval D is not for you.

I do the same -- I used to spend frustrating hours (or so it seemed) trying to cut the barrier to the right shape. On a visit to a WOCN, she said "your stoma is not oval, it is round!", placed her hands on my abdomen, and sure enough the stoma assumed a round shape. (She kindly refrained from adding "your stomach is just flabby.)

She also recommended getting a precut wafer, saying that cutting a convex wafer reduces the effectiveness of the convexity. These two changes essentially eliminated all leaks. I think I have had two minor leaks in the year since I made this change. Previously, although I was getting an average 4 days wear, virtually every change was precipitated by a leak.

I had a check-up with my surgeon shortly after getting this advice, I asked her if it was all right to sort of force the stoma to a round shape, she agreed with the nurse, it should be assisted to assume its correct shape.
