Eakins Seals Problems

ok- when I use eakin seals, they melt inward toward stoma, which isn't the problem- the problem is that as it does so- the eakin sticks to my ostomy pouch plastic- and I have to rip it off the eakin seal in order to properly empty the pouch - it makes a gooey mess, and everytime I have to lift the plastic off the goo- I'm afraid it is pulling the seal up and off my skin

Also- I'm not getting any better wear time with the eakin- My skin is flat, no real skin issues- and I've tried it with no medical adhesive, and also with Hollister medical adhesive- and the adhesive seems to hold a little better- but I still only really get 24 hours, and when I take the pouch off, content has leaked almost to edge of eakin, just like it does with just the regular pouch wafer only.

I warm the eakin up before applying- don't use any soaps to clean with- no other products- just use water to clean skin- and make sure everything is dry right before I apply pouch- Hold it down while heating with hairdryer etc-

How In the world are people with ileostomies and watery output getting 4-5 days and longer? I barely get 24 hours- I pushed it once and it leaked by the following morning

I'm finding that it's not adding any more time, and it's really messy and hard to deal with as the pouch plastic sticks to it- how do you keep your pouch from sticking to the Eakins seal? I wish the eakin would stick to my skin as well as it does to the plastic of the pouch- I'd never have any leaks then lol

up around the stoma- the eakin melts inwards towards the stoma, and when it does it makes contact with the plastic of the pouch and the contents of the pouch pool up behind it (Up near top of pouch), and make things difficult when trying to empty-- When I don't use Eakins, I pour water into pouch and of course there's nothing sticking the plastic- so the water can be easily swished around in the pouch to clean thoroughly but when the Eakins causes the plastic to stick to it- I can't swish the water around completely and have to unstick the plastic from the Eakins around the stoma

Yes, I have to cut hole larger in wafer because of size change in ostomoy- if I cut it so it fits snug, then the changing size of stoma pushes the edge of the wafer up and then leaks happen

Thanks Bania, I'll give those a try- I just need something that will stick like glue and melt to my skin well enough to prevent leakages- just wish there was a kind of super glue for pouches- nothing I've tried is strong enough to keep contents from working their way under between skin and wafer or seal- even the eakin seal didn't prevent it- I won't mind one bit if it's hard to remove- (I dealt with Karaya pouches for many years, and that would melt to the skin and I had to scrape it off with fingernail it would stick so good- but they went and cheapened how they construct those pouches now so I was forced to switch to these new hydrocolloid ones and they just do not stick well)

You must use two piece I'm assuming? I use 1 piece- I was using some paste (Adapt I think) but I'd put it on the seal itself- but found it would squish out, and stick to pouch (like the issue I'm having with the Eakins)- also the paste would kinda dissolve before the day was over (I have to empty 8-12 times a day, and all that content really eats away at the paste-

I've ordered some adapt seals- I don't have much hope for them- but hwo knows- perhaps it will work- sure would be great to have a pouch I can be confident in and go two days with at least-

nazareth. I use a one piece pouch. I tried the adapt paste as well. It gave the same issues as you describe. The pastes with alcohol content seem more durable. They seem to dry to a rubber like finish, certainly the convatec stomahesive paste does. It took me ages to find the right product. every brand of seal or paste will work differently with your stoma so get as many samples from as many different manufacturers as possible. depending how much I eat I can also be emptying 8 to 10 times a day, I dont bother about getting the right consistency of output either. what will be will be!!
