Hello, I haven't been here in a very long time, my name is Dusti, I am 34 years old. I thought I'd tell you all about my journey with ostomies and chronic pain:

I was 13 when my colon shut down due to colonic inertia, so I had to have my colon removed. Then at 16 my rectum shut down due to rectal inertia and I also had to have that removed, then at about 18 I had to have an ileostomy due to lots of pain and constipation (I did have it reversed, but all the pain and constipation came back, so I had to have the ileostomy again) I also have inertia throughout my entire digestive tract, so I have chronic abdominal pain because of it.

What are your stories?

I'm a 47 year old male. I'm a therapist/firefighter (how's that for a combination). I worked 21 years with child and family services. My first bout with ulcerative colitis was five years ago. It came coupled with a bunch og auto-immune issues including paracarditis. .. talk about feeling like I was dying... or wishing I would to end the pain. We were able to get the colitis under control with immune suppressants and anti inflammatories. All clean. .. all clear. Until this August when I noticed blood in my stool again. I ramed things up with my GI, but by September 18 , I couldn't handle the pain anymore and went to emergency. Was immediately transported to a city hospital and it was the first time I've heard the term mega toxic colon. After two weeks of convulsing while trying to bring it down with meds. .. including remicade, we decided on surgery on October 2nd. Not that it was much of a decision. Toxic colon blows up or, take it out. End ileostomy, hollister 2 piece and a new mental/physical struggle of getting back into the fire. ..so to speak.
