So I'm thinking of giving popcorn a go. I've haven't eaten any since before my first Ileo. However, I've never had an issue with blockages, although this loop is only just shy of 3 months old, so early days yet.
Just seeing what the general consensus is on this board, I'd be interested to hear other peoples experiences.

I had some while I had my loop and never has any issues. Only way to know is if you try some. Don't go nuts obviously and down a bucket at the movies but try a little. But then you hear of others who got a blockage from it. We're all different.

Thanks Marianne, I'm confident I'll be fine. However, since I'm going back to a previous employer on Monday, I may leave it a while now! Only just thought that one through, don't want to risk a blockage and lose a job because of it.

I could eat bags of popcorn with an ileo, but I never tried one of those massive boxes that you get at the cinema - I'm not sure how one of those would have gone down. If I do go back to an ileo, and things are okay, I am going to go to the cinema and have a massive box of popcorn.
I think if you're starting a new job it is better to play it safe, foodwise, and stick with what you know won't try to kill you. Good luck.

Yes, I think I'll give it a while back at work. Thanks wiskers, definitely happy to be getting some normality back again. This will be my quickest return to work after a surgical procedure, so I'm a little apprehensive, just need to get the first week under my belt.

I ate popcorn with my end, loop and with my jpouch :) I didn't eat it when I had UC because I convinced myself popcorn was bad.

I eat popcorn quite often - the microwave bag ones, cinema popcorn, dry popped, you name it! No issues for me.
As with any new food, take it slow, chew well, and drink in between bites
