Two months post takedown and I'm done

I'm so sorry to hear that... I just took a shower this AM, with everything off, & when I got out & stuck on a new wafer, I thought to myself how much happier I am with the end ileo, as opposed to the years prior to surgery. I have zero desire to use my rectum in the way nature intended, which honestly I thought I may miss, in some weird way. I haven't been on any meds since surgery, aside from the odd antibiotic here & there. I love that, I used to worry 24/7 taking biologics, always afraid I'd get sick. I'm never home anymore, always running around doing this or that... It's just easy, the end ileo, a real no-brainer. I hope your GI understands & supports your decision, but remember- if she doesn't, you don't need her approval or permission. I personally can't imagine going back to the "old way" after an ileo, I give you folks who try it a lot of credit. Hang tough!!! Don't let your GI push you into any drug you don't want.

Since I currently see no way i can return to work what i want to happen is see the surgeon asap, extend my leave until surgery, have a total colectomy and go back to work all better post surgery.

I'm going through my GI first tomorrow because she can usually get me into the surgeon faster, however if she sticks to her theory of this past surgery can still be a success than I will just call the surgeon directy and tell her I'm pursuing only surgical options. My surgeon already has a pretty good idea of how I feel.

My boyfriend agreed, he has been through most of my ups and downs and survived 13 years of this disease with me and he said he has never seen my quality life suffer so much.

I was going to say maybe wait a little longer but then I read your signature and see you have a crohns dx. You know your body best and I would say it's ultimately your decision. Can the surgeon actually refuse?

OMG...that's terrible. I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I read where your initial diagnosis was Crohn's and then switched to UC and now back to Crohn's? What happened there?

You sound in a worse way than me. I'm not housebound at least, nor am I on any medication. I can basically function, as long as I follow a bland diet and put up with the excruciating urges on a daily basis. (As awful as they are, 99% of the time I don't have any leaks or accidents.) I can tell you if I was in your shoes, I'd have no hesitation about booking surgery ASAP. In fact I've been on the brink of doing that many times. The only reason I've calmed down a bit is that the pain has been better lately. However, my sleeping pattern has been wrecked due to the number of times I need to get up in the night to go to the toilet and, until recently, the pain.

My surgeon is also far more pro-surgery than my GI. Think that's pretty common really - surgeons are trained to operate, doctors are trained to try and stop you being operated on.

Christine1946, My very first GI diagnosed Crohns but every Dr after that felt like I had UC but never changed my diagnosis. Last year when I got referred to this GI at a large university IBD center she said based on all my scopes and disease location activity she was changing me to UC. Then when my colon started to perforate and the surgeon got involved they changed me back to Crohns and then pathology from surgery confirmed. That is part of the reason I feel more comfortable with removing my colon is because my disease has always been only in my colon. Never once anywhere else, not saying that couldn't happen.

Keith I have done cipro and flagyl together and presurgery always worked well for me. We have tried the combo once post surgery and it didn't help. This flare is so weird and so different than any I had before surgery.

I don't have thrush, my bf is a dentist and a few weeks ago actually asked to see my mouth and examined me for it. I don't feel like I have sibo as all my symptoms are very low to left colon and rectum and I don't have any gas bloating or reflux.

I did just hear from my GIs office and they said they sent a referral to my surgeon that I needed to be seen asap and that the surgeons office should be calling me today.

Appointment went well. Surgeon agrees and we are taking it all what's left of my colon and my rectum! I will be closed for business!!!!

Only hiccup is he is worried I'm malnourished again because I'm so underweight. So I'm having CT and bloodwork this afternoon. Depending on results he may make me do a month of TPN before surgery. So fingers crossed that my bloodwork comes back OK!!! I jut did 5 weeks of TPN in September. I don't know if mentally I can handle that again.

That's great that he agreed. It sounds like you're one step closer to living comfortably again :)
