Ileostomy output question

I have been living with an ileostomy for about 10 days now, and have noticed that a lot of the times when I am emptying the bag in the toilet, the output is kind of floating on the water's surface. Is this normal or does it indicate anything special, i.e. malabsorption of some kind? I seem to recall that when this happens for people with a colon, it's usually due to excessive fat in the stool.

I don't recall when I had my loop, I have a J Pouch now but I notice some of my stool does float and it's usually when I notice I'm passing mucus along with it

Have you eaten cake, muffins, or donuts or anything with yeast in it? I have learned that whenever I eat anything like that I will have output as you describe.

07kr5 -10 days? you just had surgery! Your insides are still adjusting to your colon being taken out of you. as time goes on, your output will thicken - don't we all just love talking about poo?!

At the same time, with an ileostomy, we will always - most of the time - have partial output that will float...no getting around that in our medical condition.

Take your time and let your body heal.

My output was always runny in the am and then switch over to thicker as the day went on. It also was some very strange colors too, depending on what I would eat.

I agree, you are still healing. Glad you found this forum, as I am sure you will have some others questions along the way. Is yours a temp or perm?
