Just wondering if anyone had part 1 of their surgery done in Toronto at Mount Sinai hospital? I am scheduled to do it there with an expert team dedicated towards IBD, with Erin Kennedy leading it. Has anyone had her before as their surgeon, or if anyone lives in Toronto or near this area, where did they get their surgery done and were you happy with the results? Just trying to do my research before I led a stranger knife me, thanks all!

P.S anyone with an ostomy and have celiac disease? Does it affect the ostomy in any way?

Hello, I guess no one lives close to Toronto or they would have replied. Yes it is so scary to literally put your life in another persons hands but there comes a point when it's the best option. Try to find out how many of these surgeries your particular surgeon has done. And see if you can find any reviews on the surgeon. Sounds like you are going for a j pouch so you want someone with a lot of experience in this area for the best outcome to you. You might try another forum like the United ostomy

I live about halfway between Toronto and Niagara Falls. I don't think I can help you choose a surgeon though. Mine was basically an emergency because my (brought forward a year) colonoscopy indicated a fairly aggressive stage 3 cancer at the junction of the rectum and the sigmoid. I had no time to research local surgeons so had to put my faith in my GI's recommendation.
My total proctocolectomy done March 4 this year. I had it done by Dr. Sarah Bacopulos at Burlington Joe Brant Hospital. The surgery lasted 7 hours. There must have been some complications for it to take so long, which I suppose I'm going to find out eventually when I'm able (mentally and physically) to ask the right questions. All I know is that it spread into the numerous neighboring lymph nodes in the pelvic floor muscles. Between my age, the chemo and the groin pains etc. It's a slow recovery for me.
Burlington might be a bit far for you but I'm sure there are great surgical teams at Mt. Sinai. Good luck.

I've had both my surgeries (colon removal and rectum removal) done at Mount Sinai in Toronto, despite me living in Oshawa.

My experience there was wonderful - the doctors and nursing staff were always kind and compassionate. The ET nurse Monica is absolutely amazing!
