Hi all
Had colostomy operation end of January, really struggling to get weight back on, now more active and working is making it even worse, weight loss, no gain. Any ideas much appreciated. On 3 meals a day???

I was unhealthy super skinny before surgery.
When I finally got surgery and could finally eat, I put on weight adding nut butters like cashew and almond butters (yum), along with peanut butter plus carbs in good breads, specialty crackers, and more than usual healthy fats like olive and coconut oil.
Use those food groups each meal and you should be able to put on weight.
(And high protein meats, fish etc., BUT typically high carbs, bread, pasta, crackers, nut butters which are naturaly high in protein which is good for healing, will pack weight on.)
I went from 86 to my normal 115 pounds easily just following those rules. Once at my normal weight I went back to high protein and green, low carb and have maintained my healthy weight no problem. Not gained or lost once at reg weight.

I was also underweight before surgery due to the effects of ulcerative colitis. I had lost 20kg in the space of three months in the lead up to surgery. As a male, I was a healthy 80kg before UC had its way!
I have an end ileostomy, so my system works a bit different to yours. I was under the impression that generally people with colostomies find it easier to put on weight than Ileostomates.
Nonetheless, since my surgery 9 weeks ago I have maintained a high protein intake (fish, chicken, duck etc) along with rice, pasta, bread, peanut butter etc. I have milk as well as yogurt everyday and snack on a protein bar most days. Following this diet - along with carbohydrates - I've recovered a lot of the weight I lost and I now look healthy again.
It will take several weeks of a high protein diet to see a difference. If you continue to fail in gaining weight, it might be worth having a blood test to check your albumin levels .... mine were low before surgery, which basically meant I was malnourished and a big part of the reason for my weight loss.
