All,
I've been in rehab for recurring lower back pain(see my post in the chronic pain section). Had a long discussion with the physical therapist. The question is: do you undertake abdominal exercises to strengthen your abs, or do you not, and run the risk of abs getting weak over time thus making a hernia more likely?
Just wondering everyone's thoughts...I've been doing small sets of crunches for core muscle strengthening, and I have no pain in the ostomy area. Also, due to the back problems, and seeing lots of doctors, they've commented that ab muscles should be thick due to the work they need to perform. however, if we as ostomates do not exercise them, or are too concerned to use them daily (e.g., getting up from sitting, doing yard work, etc.) will the muscles eventually weaken and they we end up with the thing we were worried about?
All comments appreciated.
