Bowel prep for loop ileostomy surgery - effects of bowel prep on small intestine

What effect would a bowel prep have on the small intestine?

Background: After running out of effective medications for my Ulcerative Colitis (and going through one clinical trial with no effect), I decided it was time for j-pouch surgery. I had the first of three surgeries in July; My colon was removed and I have an end ileostomy.

In a few weeks I have the second surgery where the end ileostomy will be disconnected and formed into a j-pouch and another section of my small intestine will be used for a loop ileostomy so the pouch can heal (before the third surgery when the ileostomy is taken down and the j-pouch hooked up so the plumbing works the way its supposed to, in a manner of speking).

I initially thought that I would not need a prep for the second surgery but now I'm told I do.

Having been well versed by now in bowel preps I know they are meant to draw water into the colon to flush out the contents, but what effect is there on the small intestine, which is all I have now?

You shouldn't ever need a bowel prep again, if you no longer have a colon.
