Any connection between IBD and boils?

I had a proctocolectomy with end ileostomy over six years ago. Still have my anus, which is diseased, but I'm having success treating it with proctofoam. My problem is that I have developed a few boils since my operation which I never had before. They are located in a delicate place too, which I don't care to go into detail..lol. Anyone else have this problem?

I have had my ileostomy for almost 3 years and have had crohn's for 35 and I have been on Cimzia, a biologic since my surgery. With my crohn's I would get the occasional boil/abcess, usually in the 'delicate' areas also. Warmish/hot epsom salt baths did a great job of clearing those up pretty fast, but they are still painful until they come to a head and pop.

Within the last year, I have been getting 1-5/month. Plus yeast infections on my skin. I'm attributing this to the Cimzia and going to talk to the Dr when I go in later this month.

Christine~are you running fevers? How are you treating the boil? Do warm compresses do anything to help?

If you find yourself running a fever, call your doctor. Since you still have your anus it could be more than "just" a boil and should be looked into. If it is an abscess you may need to treat it differently.

Thank you for responding girls! It's going away! I was soaking in hot water with Epsom salts and it must have done the trick. I was told I had UC, but only in the rectum. Suffered with it for twelve years before my surgery, however, the symptoms I have had since my surgery are more related to Crohn's! Go figure.
