Do you have an end ileostomy or a colostomy? I have an end ileo but still have my anus. NO rectum or colon, but a rectal cuff. Four years post surgery, my disease came back into the anus, in 2014. I was seeing a new colorectal surgeon because my surgeon retired in 2013. He performed biopsies, under anesthesia. He went through the anus, did not have to disturb the stoma. While I do have disease inside the anus, there is no dysplasia or cancer and no further surgery is required. However, what I did NOT like with that surgeon is that he insisted I come to his office every three months and he anuscoped me and it hurt like the dickens. I also was bleeding from my vagina after these procedures and it has been concluded that I do have a recto vaginal fistula. Since there is no feces that passes through there, there is no reason to operate. I am now seeing a different colorectal surgeon whom I like very much. He suggested I have biopsies every year instead of every two years. This way he can stay on top of the situation. There is absolutely NO reason for me to come in every three months like the other guy had me doing and at my post biopsy visit he saw NO reason to anuscope me. So, there you have it. You have to find a colorectal guy you are comfortable with and who makes perfect sense. I asked what my chances are of developing cancer in the anus, since many people here have been told it is a cancer risk. Well, everything is a cancer risk and he said 0 to 4 %.
