Stoma swelling too big?

are you still having normal output? Has the appearance of your stoma changed at all?

Use the cut-to-fit wafers or just cut a slightly bigger hole in your pre-sized until the size of your stoma stabilizes. If you're not having any pain, discomfort, or obstruction symptoms, then it's probably nothing to worry about. The width/girth of my stoma increased (rather suddenly it seemed) about 8 months after my surgery. No issues with it at the time; I suspect it was just because I was gaining a lot of weight.

I agree with the others, so long as there's no pain, it's probably not too worrisome. I know blockages can have the types of symptoms you describe, but you would know if you had one because you wouldn't be having output, and you would be very uncomfortable, plus it's been a while... Could it be a sign of a hernia? If you're worried, I would go to the surgeon for follow up. I definitely think you should cut the wafer bigger, don't want to choke and the stoma and stop things from flowing properly. My stoma never changed much the whole time I had it.

nssg, I'm actually having surgery on an inguinal hernia on Thursday.
My stoma sits on a small but significant 'knoll' to the right and slightly south of my belly-button. I don't like the idea of a 'parastomal hernia', it sounds very painful it's bad enough down in my groin, but hopefully that should be repaired in a couple of days.

Since day one my stoma has always been very tender and almost 'numb' to the touch, it makes me kinder shudder even if I have to clear it (through the pouch) from the 'pancaking' nuisance.
I don't think I'll ever get used to it.

Hernias seem to be a common problem with (mostly male) ostomates but when you think about it, isn't a stoma a man-made hernia anyway? Maybe that's why it feels so weird to the touch, after all it really belongs on the inside!
Anyway I've ordered flanges the next size up to give it more wiggle room.
