I've read one should wear a support belt and start slow, with low weights. They say the area is at high risk for hernia in the first year, but perhaps if one builds the muscles gradually (light weights) in the first several months, they can avoid or lessen the risk? Has he started with stretches and light exercise without weights? That may help to strengthen and avoid injury and prepare the muscles for weights. Also he should eat lots of protein to heal the severed muscles. Does he have any other incisions on his belly? Even if the wound looks nicely healed on the surface, it may take more time, to heal the deeper muscles underneath. I would advise low and slow, if he is going to attempt any weights so soon? Better yet, maybe he should ask his doctor first?
