Good day all,
I'm new to the ostomy forum. I had a total colectomy in early April. I started to notice after 2 days with a new pouch, odor comes from the pouch when it's closed. I'm using a holister 2 piece appliance.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Aba,
I have a colostomy and Yes it happens to me. TIt seems as though the bag itself absorbs some of the smells. My spouse says he can't smell it....but when I go to the rest room (even prior to
opening the pouch) I can smell it. The first day I am ok but after that all bets are off.
The M9 odor drops help some. The Mio Ostomy bags with the full circle filter help alittle more. I can actually go about
40 hours without changing if I combine the two.
My friend uses the Hollister lubricating/deodorant and the M9. She swears by it. ( so I just ordered both and am crossing my fingers)

I only had that problem when it was time to change the wafer and bag which was around the 5 day mark on average. Up until that point there was no odor. I used the Hollister 2 piece system. It would basically be at the point that it was in the early stages of leaking around the seal that this would happen.
Here is what I did to avoid leakages, which I feel was the only reason I would ever smell anything: (And by leakages I don't mean a complete free flow leak, just when the wafer starts to allow waste past the paste.

Thank you Clo. I have the holister drops. I will try it. I tried the tablets once, when emptying the pouch, completely odorless.
Thanks Benny. I also have to two clip belt. I have no idea how to use it. Lol. I ordered it thinking it was the wrap that completely covers the bag. My skin is sensitive, I'm nervous to try the paste or powder and have an adverse reaction. My skin where the wafer goes, was very red when I changed the bag on Saturday. I use the coloplast adhesive remover, and coloplast adhesive barrier.

I personally would say that without paste, then that is probably the biggest reason for the odor. Hope you get it sorted out though
