Appliance Change in a Public Restroom

So I was wondering what people's strategies were if they have ever had to do a full appliance change in a public restroom. I have done it a handful of times at work in a single-person restroom. That's no big deal. I have a sink, a mirror, and full privacy. However, my company is moving and there will not be any single-person restrooms in the new building. While it's rare, I'm sure there will be times when I discover a leak or start stinging and need to do a change. I'm concerned about just doing it in a stall because I wouldn't have a table to lay out supplies, or a sink to wet paper towels (I do that to clean before putting a new appliance on). What do people do?

The reality is that leaks and water and pouch failures do happen when we are away from the comfort of a private bathroom.

I carry with me a small emergency supply kit that has everything at the ready. A precut wafer for my Coloplast Mio; an Ekin Slim Seal; a packet of Safe and a Simple paristomal cleaning wipes; several Bounty select a size paper towels; and 2-3 small plastic waste bags.

I do a simple and basic swapping out of the old pouch for a new pouch. I keep the application at its most basic needs.

I figure when I get home I can do a more thorough re-do of my wafer and pouch and skin care. The change in the public venue is only intended to get me by temporarily.

I have had a few leaks when out and about. I have even changed my water/pouch in my car. The lesson being: You do what you have to do in a pinch.

Just do your best if you have a Code Brown when you are at work. Do a basic swapping of the old wafer and pouch for a new ones. Look at the new pouching as filling only a temporary need. You can change again and be more exacting when you get home.

Thanks for the tips. I guess there isn't a good way to do an appliance change in a non-single public restroom. Keith, blocking off the restroom is a no-go. Not only would it call too much attention to myself and bring embarrassment, but I just did a count on the floorplan. There are 218 people on the floor (majority of them men) and only 3 stalls in the one men's room on the floor! Crazy ratio, and I can't block the restroom for over a hundred people. I'm so glad I have an ostomy. If I still had regular active Crohn's where I often needed instant access to a toilet, I'd be completely wigging out right now! However, Keith, you did have a good suggestion regarding a local business. There's nothing in the office park but there's a Starbucks about 5 minutes down the road - and they always have individual bathrooms. That'll be my strategy assuming I can make it there.

How is the handicap stall? Do they have a shelf in the stall? If not then maybe you can request for them to put one in. with a foldable mirror I'm sure that I could manage, but definitely not ideal.
