Defective Hillister New Image Flange??

Hello all,

 Has anyone experienced problems with the Hollister New Image Flextend flange? I have had 3 defective flanges in the past week. They seperate where the plastic ring is glued to the adhesive seal. Funny thing is that they have all seperated at the bottom of the ring so that rules out being pulled apart. The glue seems to be dissolved by the fecal matter. Anybody else have this problem or did I just get a bad batch?

Hi Frank.

I don't use those myself. If I was you,I would phone up Hollister and explain the problem,and also send them one of your batch to get tested. Like you said it could be a bad batch but they need to be aware of the problem.

Thanks for the advice Sue. I called Hollister and they are sending me a new box of flanges. That's pretty good customer service.

Medic Frank,

I have had 2 boxes of these defective flanges.  I called Hollister and told them the lot number of the first ones and that the see-thru material connecting the floating part to the skin barrier was leaking odor, and they wouldn't do anything.  So I tried another box and put one on and within an hour poo was leaking out in the area I described.  So I called them and they put me thru to the quality control person.  I told them I needed them to do something and she said she would talk to a nurse and see what product I should use.  I have heard nothing from them.  And don't expect too.  I want to be able to use them and not have them leak.  I like Hollister one piece, but sometimes want a two piece, like if I have to go to the Dr., and they want to check the stoma or something.  I am going to call them till they do something to make it right.

My experience with the Hollister customer service rep was just the opposite of yours. I made a complaint that the flange was defective and leaking. They recorded the lot number and then sent me a new box via FedEx. I have had a reversal, and am no longer using them so I can't attest to weather the replacement box was of better quality. What was the lot number of your defective flanges? Would be interesting if they were the same as mine.

the last box of flanges was 5J242, New Image convex flange, but I don't remember what the first box's number was. I did give the info to Hollister, and they said they have it on file.

No, it's not a match. My defective flanges were 5G212. I'd try calling back with this info and demanding a replacement box.

Hi Frank,

Hollister called back today and I told them I have a bunch of bags and would like to have them replace the flanges.  She said they would replace the 2 boxes of bad ones.  I guess you just have to keep calling till you get the right person, or they get tired of you!  Anyway I am satisfied itf they really will send them to me.

Hollister is terrible when it comes to admitting a problem with their products- I used to use karaya pouches- and the karaya was not stuck to the plastic ring in spots on some batches of pouches, and this became a continuing problem with these particular pouches- there were gaps between barrier and the p ouch that poo could and did flow through out onto skin- I even wrote detailed descriptions of the problem, and sent them pouches with arrows pointing out the defects, and their 'experts' 'examined the pouches' and 'found nothing wrong' with them- I even asked "did you even bother looking at the pouches? I pointed out exactly where the problems were, with diagrams and arrows drawn onto the pouches themselves- and it's obvious to me no one actually even looked at the pouches I sent in because it was very obvious there were problems' to which they simply repeated 'our experts have examined the pouches and found nothing wrong'- and so nothing was ever done about the problem- I had to throw away almost entire boxes of pouches- 30 in all- because almost every single one of them was defective- then I got smart and started returning them for replacements- but it was a real crap shoot as to whether or not the new box would have the same problem- I lost count of how many people I talked to about the issue and they simply denied there was a problem- Apparently no one at Hollister has to wear the pouches- so no skin off their noses if the product is defective or not-
